Ugh.

I don't know if we needed to post a reading summary or not, but Bianca reminded me, so I'm doing one anyways :)

Ok, so I'm reading this book called State of Fear by Michael Crichton. It's a novel about the theory of global warming. It is fiction, but all the facts and reasonings are cited in the back of the book.

So the quote I chose was, "Sanjong and I gave you a careful, peer-reviewed interpretation of data. Made by several groups of scientists from several different countries. And your response was first to ignore it, and then to make an ad hominem arrack. You didn't answer the data. You didn't answer the data. You didn't provide counter evidence. You just smeared with innuendo."

I chose this quote because this was a quote that I can really relate to, but on a lower scale. In this part, Kenner (An MIT professor) is trying to convince Peter (A lawyer who normally deals with environmental issues) that global warming is still a THEORY and there is hard earned evidence that can support AGAINST global warming. Peter tried to counter argue, a little, by saying that Antarctica is melting. But in fact, only 2% is melting in Antarctica, while the rest is growing colder.

In the book, there are A LOT of other facts that surprised. Like the ocean level hasn't risen in nearly 30 years. And the degrees is actually colder then it was a number of thousand of years ago.

I chose this quote because it made me feel the same way I had the whole book. What is global warming? If people are so sure of it, then why hasn't it been PROVEN, and is just left as a THEORY. All the facts made by scientists that go against global warming must be simply overlooked. And any small factor that can contribute to it is spread, global wide. I have always believed in global warming, but I look back now and realize that I was easily swayed. I believed what the t.v. said, and what other people said. But now, this book is showing me the counter-side.

I still don't know if I am 100% against global warming, but I know I am not 100% for global warming.

this covers TWO reading posts.

First quote is -
"Deep in earth my love is lying
And I must weep alone." -Edgar Allan Poe, from the Raven.

This, in itself, is just one of his many poems. I chose it because it was short, but still very deep. In a litteral sense, it means that his love has died and is barried, and he must cry alone. Did Edgar Allan Poe really have someone close to him die? I don't know, I have never read any thing about his life. But in another way, it could mean something totally different. It could mean that your love has left you, and you FEEL as if they have died. Or maybe, you have barried that certain someone in your head, so that you wish they were dead. And it also symbolizes that you are alone. you have no one to console with over the loss of this person, and you must morn by yourself.

The second quote is -
"Martyrdom covers a multitude of sins." - Mark Twain, from the Notebook.

I chose this quote because it introduced me to a new word, martyrdom. I looked it up and this was the definition-
–noun
1.
the condition, sufferings, or death of a martyr.
2.
extreme suffering; torment.

But, even with this definition, what does it mean in this context? Is it saying that standing up for your religon is wrong, or right? Is it blaming the people who kill them, or make them suffer? I'm not sure. Just sitting here and thinking about the quote makes me a bit confused. I like it a lot, the way the words flow together, but I am still trying to piece together what it all means.

QQC reading summary [:

I read Crank by Ellen Hopkins. It was really good, and I enjoyed it a lot.

The quote I chose was,
"Have you ever
has so many thoughs
churning inside that you didn't
dare let them escape,
in case they blew you wide open?"

I chose this qupte because when I read it, it made me think of all the secrets I kepp, I mean I've never had it that bad, but I have felt guilty and bad. What must it feel like when you can't talk to anyone?
I don't know. I have always had someone to talk to, even if its my diary. I really pittied her, but I can't that much because she dug herself into the whole drug-use problem.

again ,

I'm reading I know it's over. by C. K. Kelly Martin, still. This book is getting tiresome, I think I might give it up.

"I missed her. I hated her for hating me. And then Christmas Eve happened and made those things look like the easy part."

I chose this quote because it made Nick seem like he was thinking things through, in a different perspective. He realized that the feelings he was feeling where nothing in comparison to what had happened in Christmas Eve. But why did he hate her? He knew that he was lying to himself, and he still really liked her. But I think this quote is good, because he realized he couldn't get caught up in his own feelings, that he had to look at the bigger picture. I think its hard for a lot of people to do that, to see the bigger picture. Sometimes, I don't even think I can. Oh well, anyways, I really liked this quote :D
